For Naomi Giselle’s collection Trans: as a prefix of the Liquid Society I created a virtual reality experience. This was generated to present the final piece of the collection. This one is designed to exist solely in a virtual space.

From the concept of the collection, Naomi wrote the script for her virtual runway. This is what I based the virtual experience on.

The experience is divided into two parts. The runway happens in the first one. Then, to establish the path, and therefore, the animation of the walkway; I sketched the first scenario. This space is inspired by a public toilet in Berlin. It is located in the basement and alludes to the rave culture.

In the second part, the garment is no longer worn by the model, but floats in the environment for the user to contemplate. This one melts after a few seconds.

First I dedicated myself to design and build the main character. I sculpted it in ZBrush and textured it in Adobe Substance Painter. The model was created from the sketches of the collection. Therefore, she wears the same makeup as the illustrations.

For the walkthrough, I downloaded animations from Mixamo and adjusted and edited them in Houdini SideFX. Then, I generated a skeleton for the 3D model and attached it to the final animation.

The 3D garment was designed in Clo. From these files, I added the final animation and rendered the garment in the same program. That is, the weights of the garment were calculated for each frame of the animation.

I textured the walls of the main space in Adobe Substance Painter. All the graffiti are based on phrases from the essay Liquid Modernity by Zygmund Bauman. This text is the starting point of this collection.

In Unreal Engine 5 I built the experience. Here I added all the elements I created and arranged them according to the order of the script.

I composed the sound design in collaboration with Gabriel Menner, a Berlin composer. It is divided into two parts. The catwalk part we mixed the original composition for the experience by Manuel Silva de la Luz with the atmosphere of the space and the secondary sounds. In the second part, we generated a piece with a tendency to noise, in which the sounds used are based on voices and sounds of the physical world. We composed it with the purpose of inducing discomfort and anxiety among the users.
